With SnagIt for Firefox, you can screen capture web pages while staying in the browser itself.
TechSmith today upgraded this extension to make it work with Firefox 3. The Snagit extension lets you grab web content as a still image or you can extract just text from the web page.

Firefox 3 has been released and the tips and tricks are flowing in quite nicely. Firefox 3 has a nice little password manager that allows you to store and manage your passwords.
With Firefox 3 it has become much more easier to find and manage your passwords for any given site.
To quickly access and view stored passwords for any given site simply click on the favicon you can view more information about it.
Simply click on the security tab in the new window that is shown when you click on more information button and view the saved passwords for that particular site.
A definite time saver and another reason why we are urging you readers to move towards Firefox 3. Thanks Jeet.

Week 24 already and here is the next software updates post. I usually list all applications and programs that have been updated in the last seven days and have been mentioned previously here at Ghacks which usually means good, free programs. This week was rather uneventful and overshadowed by the release of Opera 9.5 and Firefox 3.
Some other great applications have been updated by their developers as well, talking about Locate, SMPlayer or Revo Uninstaller. If you follow my website regularly and install what I recommend you will spend some time updating today. That is, unless you monitor the applications yourself.

iSpring is a free PowerPoint add-in that will convert your static presentation slides into a standalone Flash movie. iSpring supports all formats including .pptx that was introduced with PowerPoint 2007.
There are two advantages here – the converted presentation will weigh less (because of Flash compression) and second, the Flash movie will preserve all slide transitions, hyperlinks and animation effects that are otherwise lost when you upload slides to PowerPoint hosting services.
If you have any audio narrations or video clips in the PowerPoint file, they’ll also become available in the published Flash movie.
iSpring converts standard PowerPoint shapes and options into vectors, pixelation won’t happen if your audience decides to view the Flash presentation in full-screen.

The Firefox 3 attempt at the World Record for the most downloaded software in the first 24 hours after release was successful with more than 7.1 million downloads in that time not counting those users who updated the browser internally or downloaded it from third-party sources. It was not that surprising considering that there was nothing to beat than themselves in the first place.
Users can even download and print a Record certificate directly from the Spread Firefox website which certifies that they were part in the biggest one-click world record of all time. Only the name has to be entered which will later be seen on the printout.

The download count pretty much depends on the infrastructure and development of a country next to its population obviously. The country with the lowest downloads was probably Chad with 1 download.

As you may know from my blog, I love information organizers. I think that sounds a bit sad looking back at that sentence, but nevertheless I do, and I cam across a cool little application today called Tobu. I think this is a great application for a number of reasons, but while getting into details would take ages, I can tell you right off the bat that Tobu isn’t for everyone.
It’s one of those applications that will be used by the geeky sort, those who don’t mind a stark exterior with a pretty complicated interface. Tobu is also different because as it describes itself, it is a “freeform information organizer”, and that pretty much holds up. You can use it for task lists, notes, thoughts, ideas, project planning, anything you like, but it will take some time to think it through and apply it.
The basics of it is that you create notes, with a name, a tag and a description. You can then simply list your notes by tag, or tag combination. That’s really all to it, but underneath this simple method lies a pretty complicated system. Tags are the main way of navigating, just enter one or more and items will pop out quickly. You can also see the relation each item has to other tags for cross reference.
What I love about Tobu is that it really lets you do anything. Tag all your tasks with “task” (how original), and when you list items in that tag you will get your task list. You can also use “today”, “tomorrow” and other tags to designate time frames and schedules. Tag all your notes with “note” (I’m really something aren’t I?) and you can list all of them, seeing all the other tags applied, or list ones in the “notes” and “blog” section for notes about your blog.
The power of Tobu, and all other application like it is that they only provide the framework, while you provide the method. This makes these applications the most flexible out there, but you need the best possible composure to use them effectively. If consistency is your cup of tea however, you will love Tobu.

Today is the day that you have been waiting for. The long waited Firefox 3 is now released publicly today. You can download the new version of Firefox at www.mozilla.com/firefox
Firefox team is trying to make a history and create a new Guinness World Record by making Firefox 3 as the most downloaded software in one day. I am sure they will able to make the new world record because there are many people around the world using Firefox. So, to achieve the target is just a piece of cake, isn’t it?
I have downloaded and upgraded my Firefox 2 to the latest version. Actually, I have been using Firefox 3 Beta in my Ubuntu system and I thought the interface in the final release will be the same like in beta version. Surprisingly, the interface looks so much cooler than the Beta version. I am so impressed with Firefox 3.
But my favourite extension, Live PageRank, does not work in this new version of Firefox. Why I like Live PageRank is because it able to display the pagerank of the website you are viewing on the status bar. This extension is so convenient because you no need to go to pagerank checker website because this extension will check it for you. So, I hope, the extension developer can upgrade the extension so we can use the very useful extension in Firefox 3.
Guys…if you are reading this article from Firefox 2 or from other internet browsers, why don’t you go to the Mozilla page and download a copy of Firefox 3 and view this website from it. I am sure you will feel more better and feel more fresh with the new look of Firefox 3 and its features. And you also will be part of the history because you are the one who will make Firefox 3 as the most downloaded software in the Guinness World Record.

It may be a little late to be discussing leaks of Windows Longhorn seeing as the project was reset over 4 years ago and we are now looking at Windows 7 on the horizon.
However I just discovered a very interesting blog today called UX.Unleaked which has been providing regular dialogues over the past month on the many builds and developments of the codenamed Windows Longhorn.
I have no idea what the credentials of the author are, but he has a lot of knowledge and insight into the history and development process of Microsoft. In fact he has a number of previously unseen builds on his blog and offers an in-depth commentary.
Longhorn was to contain every revolutionary technology Microsoft had envisioned for the next decade including the much spoken of WinFX. It’s been well documented that eventually Longhorn collapsed under it’s complexity and Vista was created instead using Server 2003 as a base almost completely from scratch in just 2 years.
It was a costly management mistake that has seen a dive in public perceptions and an ongoing struggle for Microsoft to hold a position of similar influence as it did at the beginning of the decade.
Although it was never completed Longhorn was not discarded. Many of the features and code inspired various Vista technologies and have been incorporated into Server 2008 and the upcoming Windows 7.
Looking through the various past builds of Longhorn can give an insight into both the development process and possibly what we can expect from future Microsoft operating systems.

Have you ever tried booting up Windows one day and it stuck at “Windows is starting up” screen for at least 15 minutes or longer before you could get to the user list? Or does your computer takes a lot of time before it can totally power down? Perhaps even logging off your user account is taking up a lot of time? If you’ve tried a lot of solutions but none worked and you are in the verge of formatting the hard drive to reinstall Windows, please see what do I have to say first.
Recently I’ve just learned from mEtRiX, our forum moderator, that we can enable and show Windows Verbose Security Status Message. This setting allows you to configure Windows so that you receive very useful verbose startup, shutdown, logon, and logoff status messages. This may be helpful to in troubleshooting slow startup, shutdown, logon, or logoff behaviour.
To enable verbose status message in Windows, just follow the few simple steps below.
1. Go to Start > Run, type regedit and click OK.
2. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\
System
3. Right click at an empty area on the right pane, select New > DWORD Value and type VerboseStatus.
4. Now double click on the new verbosestatus key that you just created and enter the value data as 1.
5. Again, right click at an empty area on the right pane, select NEW > DWORD Value and type DisableStatusMessages. By default, the value data should be 0. Leave it as it is.
Now when you restart your computer, it will very quickly show you the DLL files that is executed during Windows is starting up screen. When you shutdown, it will tell you that it is playing logoff sound, stopping windows file protection, windows is shutting down and etc… Let’s say if it hangs a long time at Playing logoff sound when you shutdown your computer, you now know for sure that this shutdown problem is caused by the wave file being used for Windows LogOff.
If Windows hangs at “Windows is starting up” and unable to get in Windows or safe mode at all, sorry to tell you that you won’t be able to use reg.exe in Recovery Console to modify your registry because it is not supported and will only tel you that the command is not recognized. There is a way to edit the registry offline by using BartPE boot CD. You can check out the guide here. You can also try running scandisk to scan your hard disk for problems, sfc to check system files, and finally windows repair or reinstallation to try to fix the problem.
As you can see, there is no harm or performance loss in enabling Windows verbose status message. In my opinion, Microsoft should have enabled this feature by default! Good luck in fixing Windows startup, logoff, login and shutdown problems!

A good way to test Firefox 3 without having to install it over your precious Firefox 2 client is to download and run the Firefox 3 portable version which comes with all features of Firefox 3 but does not tamper with previous versions of Firefox in any way. The portable client uses its own profile which is located in the same directory structure as the program’s files.
It pretty much does everything that Firefox 3 can do as well. It is possible to install extensions and themes for instance. Bookmarks can best be imported into the portable version. Just point it to your bookmarks.html file in your Firefox 2 profile folder.
It is even possible to run both the Firefox 3 portable version and another Firefox version at the same time. To do that you need to create another profile for the portable version. Head over to my article that explains how to multiple Firefox profiles simultaneously.

Ever wondered what and how the Windows Search Indexer is indexing your files in Windows Vista ? Wonder no more the Indexer Status Gadget displays information about the current indexing status and the number of indexed files in the Windows Vista sidebar. Don’t be surprised to see 100K or even more items in the index.
The Indexer Status (via Genbeta) Gadget has another interesting function which is probably even more useful than displaying the information about the search indexing process. Users can pause and resume the Windows indexer which is excellent if you want to make sure that the application that you start in a few seconds will have all possible system resources available.
Users who have installed the Windows Live 4.0 search update which is a preview release can enable its Index Now feature in Indexer Status as well.

Seems like the browser based war is gearing up with the recent release of Firefox 3. The Opera team has released stats about downloads and usages of Opera 9.5. According to the stats Opera has released, Opera 9.5 has been downloaded 4.7 million times in the last five days and has more than 20 million desktop users with a additional 12 million people using their Mobile browser Opera Mini.
The point that caught our eyes was that more than 1/4 users of Opera have never used the browser before which is quite impressive, this though would not surprise many, since the browser Opera had released for mobile devices has been quite impressive.
Nevertheless here are some stats that Opera team has released in a summarized format;

For those who are rooting for Firefox here are the numbers stats for Firefox 3 that was officially shipped today;
Though many of you may feel that the numbers are due to the promotion Firefox did to spread the news about Firefox 3, you must not forget that Opera too had the same platform to use and promote their own products.
Another interesting fact is that Firefox has always been a free product and has been in the market for only the past few years, whereas on the other hand Opera was not fully free in the earlier days and have had quite a lot of time to improvise on their product.
Nevertheless we will not take this debate further since this can be a unending discussion. We will though keep you informed on the Firefox stats in the coming few days as Firefox makes them available.

Naturally Spoken Language Search is a little known feature in Vista and used by very less people. Natural Language search allows you to search files and folders in Vista based on natural keywords like “modified yesterday”, “modified last week” etc. To enable Natural Language search go to Folder Options in Organise menu of your explorer.
In the Folder Options, select Search tab and check the box against “Use natural Language search”. Click OK and now you can search files
Now you can search for files by tying “modified yesterday”, “modified last week” or “files created last month”.

Firefox 3 has finally become a reality and can be downloaded from the official Firefox site, all your downloads will be counted towards the Guinness book of world records.
The folks have at Mozilla have launched a new design to coincide with the release of Firefox 3.
We faced some major glitches earlier while trying to download Firefox 3 as all the Firefox sites were down and we had to continuously use the F5 button along with Ctrl + R shortcut to make sure that we got to the site, but they are all back up and working now.
